Jewelry Trends

Just like home design and clothing, jewelry also has seasons and trends. Before spending your money on giant silver hoops or a diamond tennis bracelet, check out the emerging runway trends in jewelry design to make sure your look is in style.

Pearls

Pearls aren’t just for your grandmother anymore. It’s hard to believe that something akin to getting sand in your eye to a human creates such a beautiful object inside an oyster, mussel or clam. Those little irritants harden and beautify until they are harvested and made into the necklaces, bracelets and rings seen on this year’s runways. Because pearls are sensitive, they should be kept on velvet liners or soft pouches to maintain their luster.

The New Locket

The new locket isn’t a locket at all but a cute little bag just big enough for a lipstick. These bag necklaces can be long or short, made of leather, metal or fabric. They can stand out or blend into your outfit just as you like.

Earrings as Statement Pieces

Wearing a statement necklace may be a thing of the past (unless it’s one of the trendy bag necklaces). Shoulder length earrings are the new statement pieces. These ornaments can get so long, you will need to be careful when you throw a bag over your shoulder for fear of catching on one.

Textured Metal

Imagine the jewelry Athena or another Greek goddess might wear, and you’ll be spot on for the new textured metal craze. Chunky bracelets in crushed gold or silver are in. Smooth metals are out. Keep pieces shiny by cleaning with a soft cloth.

Beachy Keen

Why give up that vacation feel just because you must work? Bright colorful beads made of clay, shells or glass interspersed with feathers or charms are a runway hit. Add texture by layering a choker with longer strands.

Keep your jewelry wardrobe up to date by adding in a few trendy pieces. Whether you go high fashion with pearls or keep it casual with beads, you’re sure to turn heads with your stylish look.

Safety Tips for Home

The safety and security of your family should be important to you. You never know what could happen, and you should always be prepared for anything. Your home especially should be a safe haven for them, and in order to do so, make a plan to help you in case there was an emergency. Here are some ways to help ensure you all feel safe while at home.

Cameras

A great way to see what is happening in and around your home at all times is a camera system. You can view the recordings while at home or when you are away. If anything happens, you can see it on film. This can be useful when no one is home. Being able to see outside can also help you monitor for any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.

Fence

Having a fence around your property can work as a deterrent. Most people will think twice when they see a large fence around someone’s place. It can also give you privacy from neighbors and people who may be watching what you are doing. Knowing that there is a barrier between you and someone walking into your yard or home can really help one feel safe.

Weapon

You may be at home while an intruder breaks in, and if this were to happen, having a weapon could protect your family. You can have a blunt force object or knife close by, or you may choose to have different types of Glocks in your home. A handgun can be a deadly force and would be able to protect you until help arrives.

Bunker

Having a spot where everyone goes during a state of emergency is important. Not all emergencies involve criminal activity. Storms and nature may cause a natural disaster. A meeting spot without windows and in a secure part of the home can protect you from injury.

No one wants to have an emergency occur, but everyone should be prepared just in case. Some of these tips can help you get through various ones that could happen.

Dining Room Décor on a Budget

A dining room doesn’t need to have exorbitantly priced furniture or china to impress your guests. Here are some examples of a few simple touches that can make a great impression on your company.

Get Chair Covers

If your dining room chairs have seen better days, you might want to consider dressing them up. Getting some chair covers` can be an affordable alternative to replacing a set.

Choose a Fantastic Centerpiece

Celebrate an Occasion With a Decorative Table Cloth

In addition to a centerpiece, a table cloth can make your table look festive. Holidays such as Thanksgiving or Easter can be celebrated with bright or patterned prints.

Make Drinkware a Priority

3 Things To Do After Bringing Your Horse Home

Bringing a new horse home is exciting whether you are an experienced or first-time owner. Experienced owners have a better idea of what to do after bringing their new animal home, but if you are new to the horse world, you may not know what to do next because being a responsible owner involves a lot more than just riding your pet. Here are three things you should do after bringing your horse home.

Spend Time Bonding With Your New Pet

Horses often share special bonds with their owners but you have to spend time developing that bond if you want it to grow. Spending time with your new horse is the best way to cultivate a positive relationship. You can start by simply spending a lot of time near your pet. You can also perform long, relaxing grooming sessions while you talk to your horse. Building this relationship will help you become a better riding partner.

Prepare for Unexpected Expenses

Horses are expensive. Not only will you need to provide grain and hay for your companion to eat, but you also need to be prepared for unexpected medical expenses. You could be facing an astronomical vet bill if your horse gets sick or injured and you want to provide the best care possible so you may want to purchase horse medical insurance to be prepared if something happens.

Inspect Your Property Regularly

Horses can get injured if your property isn’t properly maintained so you should make it a habit to inspect your property regularly. Invest in proper fencing for horses and make sure it doesn’t fall or become damaged during storms. You should also inspect the terrain so you know there isn’t anything in the pasture that could injure your pet.

Bringing a new horse home can be both exciting and overwhelming if you are a first-time horse owner. Use these three tips to settle into your new routine so you can give your companion his or her best life.

Scrubbing

Starting your own cleaning business is one of the easiest ways to make some money from home. You are able to make your schedule and decide on how much work you want to have. How To Choose Your First RV

You've heard the siren call of the open road for years and are finally ready to purchase your first RV. Before you go shopping at the RV dealership or show, think through the following factors to make sure you choose the right model for you.

Budget

RV prices vary widely, and you don't want to fall in love with one you can't afford. Calculate how much money you have available to spend on an RV. If you'll be financing the purchase, know how much of a monthly payment you can comfortably afford. Contact your insurance agent Glendale AZ for a quote on the annual cost of coverage and factor in estimated annual amounts for fuel and maintenance.

Use

Consider how much time you'll spend in the RV. Weekend trips to a lake or campground can be enjoyed in a smaller model with basic necessities. A lengthy cross-country adventure calls for a larger RV with apartment-like amenities and ample storage space for clothes, gear, food, cooking supplies and linens.

Type

Research the type of RVs that fit your budget and planned use. If you'll be a weekend traveler, check out towable travel trailers (if your current vehicle has enough hauling power) or small Class C motorhomes. Look at larger fifth-wheel towable trailers or Class A motorhomes if you'll be embarking on longer adventures.

Features

There is a wide range of features available in today's RVs including full-size kitchens and baths, media rooms with recliners and a couch, fireplaces, dining rooms and bedrooms with queen-size memory foam beds. It's easy to get starry-eyed about a loaded RV and end up paying for more features than you will use. Instead, keep your budget and needs in mind and shop accordingly. You can always upgrade to a larger or more luxurious model later.
Thinking through these factors in advance will keep you focused during your shopping experience and help you choose the right first RV for you.

Moving: What to Keep, Store or Toss

Before packing everything you own and moving it to your new place, take a good hard look at what you’ve accumulated. While you’ll likely keep much of your stuff, this may the perfect time to part with what you no longer need.

Keep It

Your first instinct may be to hang on to everything you own because you might need it someday. However, when you begin to realize that everything you hold fast to will need to be packed, transported, then unpacked you might become a little pickier about what you keep. When it comes to clothing, consider if it is still fashionable and something you wear frequently. For furniture and decorator items, think about how these pieces will fit into your new home.

Store It

If you have pieces of furniture that just won’t work in your new space, consider storing anything that is in good shape. That way you won’t end up having to purchase new chairs or beds if you later move to a larger place. Storage can also be a good option for out-of-season clothing or keepsakes for which you may not have room. Personal units can be found for storage Petaluma or in an area near you.

Toss It

If something you own isn’t at the top of your list for keeping or storing, it’s probably time to part with it. If it’s is worn out or no longer in style, or if you haven’t even looked at it in years, it’s a great candidate for the dustbin. Before throwing anything away, take a moment to consider whether someone you know would like to have it, or if it’s in good enough condition to donate.
Relocating from one home to another is a great chance to sort through your belongings. Make packing easier by evaluating what to keep, store and toss ahead of your move.

Tips for an Organized Move

Moving across town seems like an easy task at first. Then you start packing your house. Suddenly, you are acutely aware of how much stuff you have. To keep the new house from becoming a dumping ground for old junk, here are a few tips to organize your move.

Find Movers

Once you have a date in mind for moving day, start calling local moving companies in St Louis. Before you call, count the pieces of small, medium and large furniture you will need them to move, and estimate how many boxes you'll have. You probably won't get it exactly right before you've packed, but at least you can give them a ballpark figure on which to base an estimate. Calling in advance also increases your chances of your top choice having a block of time open on the date you need it.

Get Labels

The key to an organized move is labeling everything clearly. Set up a box labeling system. At minimum, your system needs simple, clear directions that anyone can follow with minimal instruction. For example, it's a good idea to pack by room and label each box with a number and the room it belongs in. Use the numbers to compile a master list of every box you pack. Not only will this give you a reliable final tally for the movers but also helps you keep track of everything.

Pack Light

It will be tempting to throw everything you see in a box and promise yourself you'll sort it out later. Moving is a great opportunity to get rid of things that you don't want or need, though. Shred old documents that have expired or become irrelevant. Donate clothes that don't fit and dishes you don't ever use. A little more work in the packing process to sort out what you're keeping makes moving easier in the long run.
Moving is a lot of work. Following these tips can make it go much more smoothly.

5 Tips To Prepare Your Family for a Disaster

Sooner or later, your family could be affected by a natural disaster. Because disasters often strike without warning, it is necessary to prepare ahead of time for the disaster that may come at any time. Here are some helpful planning tips.

1. Consider Your Family's Needs

A general disaster preparedness plan is okay, but try to tailor it so that it addresses the unique needs of your family members. For example, if you have someone in your family with limited mobility, try to find a shelter that offers ADA showers. If anyone in your family takes medication on a regular basis, try to obtain extra beforehand in case you cannot get to the pharmacy for a while.

2. Pack Emergency Supplies

Among the many emergency supplies you may need are:
  • Drinking water
  • Nonperishable food
  • First-aid kit
  • Extra clothing and blankets
  • Radio
  • Flashlight
  • Batteries
If possible, make the kit portable so that you can take it with you if you have to evacuate.

3. Be Considerate of Others

You should have a small surplus of emergency supplies in case the disaster lasts for a while. However, do not hoard supplies. Otherwise, your neighbors who are in need may not be able to access them. Be prepared to share, if necessary.

4. Keep Hard Copies

Any important documents you may need should be placed into a waterproof container and taken with you. This includes phone numbers of family members, insurers, etc. You may be used to storing these on your phone, but your phone could become damaged or there may not be electricity to recharge it.

5. Plan for Separation

The goal is to keep your family together during a disaster, but you may get separated by accident. Prepare for this by making a family plan for where you will meet up if you get separated during a disaster.

Can You End Sibling Rivalry? Here Are 3 Tips for Gaining a Peaceful Home

Life won't ever be perfect, but with patience and interventions, you may be able to re-establish bonds and trust.

Don't Label

It's pretty common to use phrases such as "He's the eldest" or "He's my smart one." When adults begin to use these descriptions, however, they can lift one child above the other. If one is smart, aren't you implying that the other isn't? If you call one so pretty all the time, is the other one below average? Without knowing it, you could be establishing boundaries, pitting one youth against the other. Instead, try to praise choices and actions. You could say something such as "You worked really hard on that project. Well done." Try and remain objective, giving credit when it's due.

Establish Talk Time

Kids should learn to resolve their issues on their own, without nagging parents or tattling on everything. Start modeling proper ways to discuss problems, working out resolutions. This means that each kid should objectively express what is bothering them. You act as the mediator. If you must prompt, try rephrasing what they say, letting them digest the different opinions. If that doesn't work at home, seek out family therapy lafayette, a place that allows for a new environment and safe zone. The professionals can evaluate the situation, offering techniques and exercises.

Practice What You Preach

Little ones are watching. If you are nit-picking and reacting with friction, then they'll pick up on it too. Work on speaking clearly and directly about the issue. You probably can't eliminate all yelling, but try to minimize it. Simply stand firm, directing attention to the party hurt most, condemning the wrong actions and punishing appropriately.
It's not going to happen overnight. Small steps could garner big rewards.

4 Ways To Save on Auto Insurance

Protection is crucial for anyone on the road, but sometimes it can be expensive. If you’re looking to save on auto insurance Grayslake IL, you’re in luck — here are four ways you can reduce your rates.

Defensive Driving

Your auto insurance is in place to help cover the cost of damage if an accident occurs. Some insurance companies offer lower rates and bonuses for having an accident-free driving record, too.

Pursuing Education

Being a student is demanding enough without the added stress of high auto insurance rates. Fortunately, student discounts are available from most providers and can help reduce your rates for the entirety of your academic career. Simply show your agent some form of student ID and enjoy a lower monthly premium.

Going Paperless

Businesses across the globe are making the move to paperless transactions, and many insurance providers will reward you for doing so. By signing up for digital billing statements, online payments or an auto-pay setup, your rates may be lowered. If you’re already going paperless, it’s also a good idea to sign up for digital alerts and any newsletters your provider offers.

Bundling Coverage

This day and age, insurance is available for almost everything — cars, homes, boats, motorcycles and even RVs all need coverage in case of an emergency. Chances are, your insurance provider will reward you with a discount if you choose to bundle your assets and insure them all together. Most of these plans vary based on what you’re covering, so be sure to speak with your agent before making any changes.

Of all the things you have to worry about, your auto insurance rate shouldn’t be one of them. Talk to your agent today to see if you’re missing out on any eligible discounts.

Young People's Pleasures

There is no denying the fact that young teens can be crazy and oftentimes annoying. They are at a point in their lives where they are beginning to taste freedom, yet they do not necessarily realize the hardships of life. They are able to go out and be on their own, yet they still rely on their parents for much of what is given to them. Here are a few things kids look forward to as they gain their independence.

Cellphone

While some parents give their children cellphones at young ages, they often place locks and guidelines on it. Once they reach the age where there is seemingly no limitations on what they can do, phone freedom is of great importance to kids. They can get involved in social media and text or play games during all hours of the day.

Driving

One of the biggest forms of freedom for a kid comes by the way of driving. While most need their parents for taking them to things like drivers ed Leander TX, once they get their license, they begin to feel invincible. They are able to take themselves to places and don’t have to rely on the help of anyone else. Driving also tends to make young people look cooler in the eyes of others.

Parties

To young people, one of the most exciting things they can do is attend all types of parties. Whether it’s a school function or something random some kids put together, the chance to party rarely goes unnoticed. They love to hang out with friends without parents and sitters and feel as if life is nothing but fun.
While teens may push everyone’s buttons sometimes, they give vibrancy and a new outlook on life. They find pleasure in things adults tend to take for granted, which is a great lesson for all to be reminded of.

Genres to Fit Your Fancy

For bibliophiles, picking something new to read can be a difficult choice. You have to consider genres, favorite authors, length of the book, paperback or hard copy, not to mention plot and your interest in the characters. For example, if you want to read a story about cops and lovers, you could probably find one in multiple different genres! There are three genres that seem to top the charts, though, in which you'll most likely find your next read.
Romance

Romance is a bustling genre filled with dozens of its own subgenres. Anyone looking for a little taste of love is sure to find a great story here. When some people hear "romance," they might have pictures in their heads of paperback book covers adorned with long-haired, shirtless men on white horses and beautiful women draped in flowy dresses blowing in the wind. This isn't so for all romance novels, though. Some take place in the west, some in Victorian times, and all other specialties that could appeal to any taste.
Mystery

Mystery is another area that has been climbing into popularity lately, and perhaps the best place to find a book you can't put down. Many mystery authors have countless volumes of stories starring the same characters or detective, such as the classic Agatha Christie, or the more contemporary Tana French. This genre is a great place for people who love to ponder a story after they've closed the pages or crack cases all on their own.
Adventure

Especially in young adult fiction, adventure novels are becoming the new normal. They keep readers' minds engaged and hearts racing until the epic ending! If you're looking for a little adrenaline rush during the lull in your day, an adventure novel is the way to go. The non-stop action will make you feel a part of the story.
