Managing Pain At Home

When you're in severe pain on a regular basis, it might seem like there's nothing that can be done. There are pain management Houston offices with doctors who can provide relief in the form of medications that are taken by mouth or injections. The injections will often work faster. Sometimes, these are better than oral medications as they come in a higher dose with the medication being injected directly to the area that is giving pain.

There are a few things that you can do at home to help relieve pain until you get to a doctor or to help if you don't like going to a doctor's office. One of the things that you can do is put yourself in a relaxed position. If you aren't thinking about the pain level, then you can sometimes push the pain away. Recline in a comfortable chair in a dark room. This often helps with headaches and back pain. Try to prop your feet up so that there is an adequate blood flow. Close your eyes, relaxing to soothing music or calming sounds. You can also use a cool compress on the eyes.

Another option is to focus on an area of the body that isn't in pain. Think about the mind and the body as separate parts. If the mind can focus on letting go of the pain or placing the area of the body in a position where there is no pain, then it be a benefit for any area instead of taking medications.

Instead of getting a physical injection, you can imagine that there is a numbing medication entering the area. You can also use this mental image with a cooling ice pack or a heating source to help take away the pain without physically going to the doctor. Soaking in a tub of warm water with a product that helps to soothe the muscles can relieve some of the tension felt in the body. Don't make the water so hot that it burns you, but you need to make sure it's warm enough to soothe the muscles and the body.
